The MiraCosta College women's volleyball team continued its climb up the state rankings after another strong week of play. The Spartans went 3-1, earning wins over El Camino, Mt. San Jacinto, and East LA, while narrowly falling in five sets to No. 15 Moorpark College. MiraCosta now sits at 7-2 overall, highlighted by several key regional victories.
On Wednesday at Miramar College, the Spartans picked up two wins, defeating Mt. San Jacinto 3-1 and sweeping East LA. Against Mt. San Jacinto, Willow Snow led the way with 14 kills and 13 digs, while Feagaiga Naotala contributed 11 kills and 15 digs. Mikayla Negrette added 10 kills, and freshman setter Millie Miller impressed with 43 assists, six kills, and five digs. In the sweep of East LA, Naotala paced the offense with 10 kills, and Julia Hamson added five kills on an efficient .429 hitting percentage.
On Friday, MiraCosta traveled to El Camino College to face both Moorpark and the host Warriors. Against Moorpark, the Spartans came out strong, winning the first two sets before falling in a back-and-forth five-set battle (15-13 in the fifth). Naotala (16 kills), Snow (15), and Negrette (9) were Miller's primary targets, while Snow anchored the defense with 31 digs. The Spartans bounced back with a sweep over El Camino, with Snow again leading the attack. Miller finished the day with an impressive 70 assists across the two matches.
Following their performance, the Spartans are now ranked No. 16 in the California state poll and No. 11 in the Southern Region. MiraCosta opens conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 17, when they travel to San Diego Mesa College.
