Spartans Open Season with Thrilling Five-Set Win at San Bernardino Valley
San Bernardino, Calif., Aug. 22, 2025 — The MiraCosta College women’s volleyball team started the 2025 campaign in dramatic fashion, outlasting San Bernardino Valley in a five-set battle.
The Spartans stormed out to a two-set lead with sharp serving and balanced offense, highlighted by sophomore setter Millie Miller's 32 assists and four service aces. Outside hitter Feagaiga Naotala led the attack with 9 kills and 17 digs, while Willow Snow (8 kills, 17 digs) and Mikayla Negrette (7 kills, .375 hitting percentage) provided steady scoring on the pins.
San Bernardino Valley rallied in the third and fourth sets behind a strong performance from Devi'arre Lucas (22 kills), forcing a decisive fifth frame. But MiraCosta regrouped, leaning on tough defense and clutch serving down the stretch. Ellie Perez anchored the back row with 17 digs, while Abigale Glassett chipped in with 3 aces to keep the Wolverines off balance.
MiraCosta finished the night with 35 kills, 78 digs, and 15 aces as a team, showcasing depth and poise in the early-season test.
With the victory, the Spartans move to 1-0 on the season and will look to carry momentum into their upcoming matches next week.
