Spartans Outlast Cuyamaca in Five-Set Thriller
EL CAJON, Calif. — October 10, 2025 — The MiraCosta College women's volleyball team battled through a back-and-forth match on the road Friday night, earning a gritty five-set victory (16–25, 25–20, 25–17, 23–25, 15–8) over Cuyamaca College.
After dropping the opening set, the Spartans found their rhythm behind an explosive offensive performance from Mikayla Negrette, who tallied 20 kills and added two service aces while hitting an impressive .372. Setter Millie Miller directed the offense with 45 assists and contributed on both sides of the net with 12 digs and four aces.
In the middle, Feagaiga Naotala anchored the front line with 11 kills and five solo blocks, while Chloe Fraser and Julia Hamson combined for 13 kills to keep the attack balanced. Ellie Perez led the defense with a match-high 28 digs, providing stability throughout the night.
After Cuyamaca forced a decisive fifth set, MiraCosta responded with poise—jumping out to an early lead and never looking back, closing out the match 15–8 to secure the road win.
The Spartans finished with 51 kills, 87 digs, and 11 aces in one of their most complete team efforts of the season.
MiraCosta improves to (10-6) with the victory and continues conference play next week as the Spartans look to build on their momentum in the back half of the season.
