It took the MiraCosta women's soccer team sixty minutes to get going, but eventually found a way to escape with a 2-1 victory over the San Diego City Knights. City College scored first in the match, in the 42nd minute. After trailing for two minutes, the Spartans answered with a Hailey Benito goal. Just minutes later, Benito assisted on the Spartan's second goal, a Shelby Maldonado goal off a corner kick.
Freshman goalkeeper Monica Martinez played 90 minutes and finished with two saves.
With the win MiraCosta improves to 4-1 in conference. The Spartans will next be in action at Imperial Valley on Friday.
