MiraCosta Women’s Basketball Stays Perfect with 73–49 Road Win at Mesa
The #5-ranked MiraCosta College women's basketball team continued its historic season Wednesday night, defeating San Diego Mesa 73-49 to improve to 25-0 overall and 9-0 in conference play. The Spartans remain the last undefeated team in the 3C2A and strengthened their hold atop the conference standings with another dominant performance.
MiraCosta established control early, taking a 16-10 lead after the first quarter before delivering a decisive 24-point second period that created a comfortable halftime advantage. The Spartans outscored Mesa in three of four quarters and closed the game with a strong 20-point fourth quarter to secure the convincing road win.
The Spartans showcased their depth and balance throughout the game. MiraCosta shot 42 percent from the field, recorded 20 assists, and controlled the boards with a 39-35 rebounding edge, including 15 offensive rebounds that led to key second-chance opportunities. Defensively, the Spartans were relentless, forcing 23 Mesa turnovers while recording 16 steals and five blocks, holding the Olympians to just 30.6 percent shooting and 49 total points.
Kiya Waters led the Spartans with an outstanding double-double, scoring 18 points on 9-of-14 shooting while grabbing 12 rebounds. Anayla Anderson delivered a dominant all-around performance with 14 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds, four steals, and one block, controlling the tempo from start to finish.
Chaya Scott contributed nine points and a game-high six steals, highlighting MiraCosta's defensive intensity. Charlotte Dagnino added 10 points, five rebounds, and three blocks off the bench, while Czarina Powell and Melia Hinojos each connected on two three-pointers to help stretch the defense. Contributions across the roster reflected the Spartans' depth and unselfish style of play.
With the victory, MiraCosta continues one of the most impressive seasons in program history, extending its perfect record to 25-0 while maintaining first place in conference play. The Spartans will look to carry their momentum forward as they pursue an undefeated regular season and a strong postseason run.
