MiraCosta Stays Perfect With Win Over Panthers
MiraCosta women’s basketball remained unbeaten with a hard-fought 68–57 win over Chaffey College on Tuesday night.
Oceanside, CA — MiraCosta women's basketball remained unbeaten with a hard-fought 68–57 win over Chaffey College on Tuesday night, improving to 4–0 on the season.
Sophomore guard Kyla Palpallatoc was the difference-maker down the stretch, stepping up in key moments after point guard Anayla Anderson fouled out. Palpallatoc poured in a game-high 29 points, including three 3-pointers and a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line, while also adding six rebounds, five assists, and three steals in an all-around performance.
The Spartans' balanced attack was on display, with Faith Behrendt and Charlotte Dagnino each scoring eight points and grabbing five and eight rebounds respectively. Kiya Waters brought toughness in the paint with eight rebounds and six points, while Chaya Scott contributed on both ends with six rebounds, a three-pointer, and two blocks. Off the bench, Hailey Schmidt gave MiraCosta an important spark, hitting a key three in the second half to swing momentum back toward the Spartans.
Despite early foul trouble and a cold start from the field, MiraCosta closed the game strong, outscoring Chaffey 22–13 in the final quarter. The Spartans' composure and defensive intensity proved to be the difference, holding the Panthers to just 34% shooting on the night.
Head Coach, Wes Perryman, praised the team's resilience: "We showed great poise down the stretch. When Anayla fouled out, Kyla and the rest of the team stepped up and made winning plays."
MiraCosta will look to keep their perfect record intact on Friday when they host Irvine Valley College, a ranked opponent that will test the Spartans' early-season momentum.
