EL CAJON, Calif. — October 7, 2025 — The MiraCosta College men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 2–2 draw on the road Tuesday afternoon against No. 7 ranked Cuyamaca College, adding another strong result to their growing resume in conference play.
After falling behind 1–0 in the first half, the Spartans stormed back in the second half behind a dominant stretch from Danny Barbosa, who scored twice in a six-minute span to give MiraCosta a 2–1 lead. Both goals came unassisted, as Barbosa showcased his ability to create and finish under pressure.
Cuyamaca, one of the top-ranked teams in the state according to the 3C2A polls, equalized in the 80th minute to salvage the draw, but MiraCosta's defensive discipline and composure down the stretch held off several late chances to preserve the result.
Goalkeeper Omar Garcia Velez recorded three key saves in net, anchoring a resilient Spartan defense that continues to improve as the season progresses.
The draw moves MiraCosta to 3–2–6 overall and 2–1–1 in conference play, while Cuyamaca now sits at 8–1–2 overall. The Spartans' performance against one of the state's best teams underscores their potential to make noise in the postseason race.
MiraCosta will return to action later this week as they continue conference competition.
