The MiraCosta men's soccer team is proving to be one of the toughest defensive units in the state, earning three consecutive draws against highly ranked opponents — Santa Monica, Long Beach, and Mt. San Antonio — in a stretch that showcased the Spartans' grit, organization, and growing confidence.
The run began at home with a thrilling 2–2 comeback against Santa Monica. After falling behind 2–0 in the first half, MiraCosta responded with a spirited second half. Joaquin Valadez and Jack Vazquez found the back of the net just minutes apart, both goals set up by sharp assists from Silas Tackaberry, to earn the Spartans a well-deserved result.
Just a few days later, MiraCosta faced perennial powerhouse Long Beach City College and again rose to the occasion. The Spartans battled to a 1–1 draw, with Dominik Wicks scoring the equalizer in the 75th minute off an assist from Alexander Oregon. Goalkeeper Omar Garcia Velez anchored the defense with several key saves, keeping MiraCosta level despite sustained pressure from the Vikings.
The Spartans carried that momentum on the road, earning another hard-fought 1–1 tie at Mt. San Antonio College, one of the state's top-ranked programs. Jiovanni Ramirez opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a composed finish, while Garcia Velez once again stood tall with six saves to preserve the result.
Head Coach Frank Zimmerman praised his team's resilience and discipline through the stretch.
"These were three of the best teams in California, and our guys showed they can compete with anyone," Zimmerman said. "We're defending with passion, creating quality chances, and believing more each match."
With three straight results against elite opposition, the Spartans have built strong early-season momentum and established themselves as a program on the rise in the competitive Southern California landscape.
