OCEANSIDE, Calif. – The MiraCosta men's soccer team showed resilience on Friday afternoon, battling back from an deficit to earn a 2–2 draw against Golden West at home.
The Spartans scored first but Golden West responded quickly with two goals. MiraCosta's first goal was scored off of a corner kick by freshman Cesar Cruz. After trailing 2-1, MiraCosta continued pressing and found the equalizer in the final moments of regulation when Ricky Toxtle converted in the 90th minute off an assist from Thierry McElroy. Toxtles goal was off of a free kick that was taken by the goal keeper so that the remaining players could be in attacking positions. McElroy won possession of the ball and passed to Toxtle, who scored with certainty.
Goalkeeper Omar Garcia Velez tallied three saves to help preserve the result. With the draw, MiraCosta moves to 0-1-1 on the young season and will look to build momentum heading into its next contest against Rio Hondo on September 2nd.
