Spartans on the Rise: 2024 Men's Soccer Team Secures Playoff Berth and Impresses Across the Field!

The MiraCosta Men's Soccer Team made waves during the 2024 season, delivering an impressive campaign marked by determination, growth, and some unforgettable performances. With a solid overall record of 13-8-3 and a conference record of 7-3-2, the Spartans showed resilience and skill as they advanced to the postseason, leaving their mark in the 3C2A playoffs.

Team Achievements

The Spartans had an exciting season with notable achievements that highlighted their growth as a team:

  • Goals Galore: Scored a total of 44 goals in 24 games, averaging 1.83 goals per match.
  • Sturdy Defense: Achieved a 1.11 GAA, keeping opponents at bay and ensuring tight matches.
  • Postseason Success: Advanced to the 3C2A Regional Playoffs Round 4, showcasing their competitive spirit.
  • Home Fortress: Secured an impressive 8-4-1 record at home, turning their turf into a battleground for victory.

Individual Stars and Honors

The Spartans' success was fueled by standout individual performances, with several players leaving a lasting impact on the season:

  • Bryan Casteneda (So., Goalkeeper): Played 22 games, delivering 27 saves with an impressive save percentage of .738, anchoring the defense and ensuring stability in critical matches.
  • Dominik Wicks (Fr., Defender): Was a consistent presence in the back.
  • Steven Renner (So., Forward): Consistently led the attack with 12 goals and 27 shots on goal, making him a constant threat to opponents.
  • Alexander Oregon (Fr., Midfielder): Provided key assists and added four goals, demonstrating his versatility and skill as a playmaker.
  • Brandon Jeffers (Fr., Midfielder): Stepped in to play important minutes in the midfield after the three starting midfielders went down with season ending injuries.
  • Charaboy Inriestra (Fr., Forward):  With Renner put unrelenting pressure on the oppoent's defense.

Season Highlights

Key Moments of Glory:

  1. Octber 4 & October 29: Continued dominance over rival Palomar College.  The Spartans won both match ups this year, winning 2-0 at home and 1-0 away.
  2. October 15: Dominated Southwestern in a 5-0 shutout, showcasing offensive firepower and defensive solidity.
  3. November 20: Advanced past San Bernardino Valley in the playoffs after a dramatic 3-2 penalty shootout victory, highlighting the team's resilience and composure under pressure.  This was the first playoff win in program history.
  4. November 23: Beat the #3 seed in the state playoffs with a 1-0 score to move forward to the third round.
  5. November 27:  Advanced past Saddleback College in third round to earn a spot in the Elite 8 of the state.  With the win, the Spartans became one of four teams in the southern region.

Playoff Journey

Though their journey ended with a narrow loss to Cuyamaca, the team's playoff performances proved their capability to compete at the highest level.
