Men's Soccer Falls In Home Opener
The MiraCosta College men's soccer team looked to kickoff its 2016 home slate on a high note against a tough Mr. San Antonio College squad, but ultimately fell victim to a bevy of first half shots by the Mounties as the Spartans come out on the short end of a 4-0 decision.

San Antonio College squad, but ultimately fell victim to a bevy of first half shots by the Mounties as the Spartans came out on the short end of a 4-0 decision Tuesday on the campus of MiraCosta College.
The Spartans (0-1-1) had shots by Julio Sanchez (43rd minute; high),Yan Guimaraes Pereira De Moraes (68th minute; saved) and Cheyne Hausmaninger (77th minute; blocked), but could not get one into the back of the net.
After starting the contest with six shots in the first 14 minutes to put the pressure on the Spartans, the Mounties got on the board in the 14th minute after a three-shot sequence including two MiraCosta deflections.
In all, Mt. San Antonio, who finished last season in the final four in the CCCAA State Playoffs, fired 10 shots in the first 24 minutes, finishing with 13 in the half and outshooting MiraCosta 20-3 on the match.
The Spartans goalkeeper, Oscar Sowell, had an impressive five saves in the opening half and eight on the match.
In addition to converting on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute, the Mounties finished with two goals in each half after scoring in the final moments of each period.
Next up, MiraCosta stays at home to welcome LA Harbor on Sunday, September 4, at 10:30 a.m., in search of its first win on the year.
