Spartans Pull Away in Second Half for 88–65 Road Win at Imperial Valley
IMPERIAL, Calif. — The MiraCosta College men's basketball team turned a tight first half into a convincing road victory, outscoring Imperial Valley 55–28 after the break to secure an 88–65 win Friday night at Imperial Valley College.
After trailing 37–33 at halftime, the Spartans flipped the game with defensive pressure and efficient offense, shooting nearly 50 percent from the field for the night and controlling the glass with a 40–24 rebounding advantage. Logan Mason led all scorers with 21 points on an efficient 8-of-11 shooting, adding 10 rebounds for a double-double. Elijah Samdahl followed with 20 points and nine rebounds, providing a strong presence inside throughout the second half.
MiraCosta's ball movement fueled the surge, as Logan Ardent recorded 11 assists to go along with 10 points, helping produce 24 assists on 34 made field goals.The Spartans also received balanced contributions from the bench. DeAngelo Macalino added 10 points and six rebounds, while Trmale Tipler and Alonzo Smith combined for 10 points in key reserve minutes.
Defensively, MiraCosta limited Imperial Valley to just 28 points in the second half and forced 15 turnovers, turning stops into transition opportunities that steadily stretched the lead.
The Spartans will look to build on the momentum as they continue conference play next week.
