MiraCosta Beach Volleyball Earns Third Straight Trip to 3C2A State Championships
After earning the No. 1 seed in the Southern Region, the MiraCosta College women's beach volleyball team continued its dominant season by winning two matches in the 3C2A Regional Team Playoffs to secure a berth in the state championships.
Hosting both Ventura College and Mt. San Antonio College with a trip to state on the line, the Spartans delivered a strong performance on Tuesday. MiraCosta opened the day with a decisive 5-0 sweep over Mt. San Antonio, with all five pairs winning in straight sets. The Spartans then followed with a 3-2 victory over Ventura College to clinch advancement.
With the two wins, MiraCosta improves to 23-4 overall, with its only loss to a community college opponent coming in a narrow 3-2 decision earlier this season. The Spartans also captured the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) championship, finishing a perfect 12-0 in conference play.
In the win over Ventura, MiraCosta set the tone early. The No. 4 pair of Claire Komadina and Savai Kilaulani delivered a convincing victory, followed by a straight-set win from the No. 5 team of Emily Musolf and Willow Snow. The clinching point came from the No. 3 pair, as Gwen Mitchell and Kylie Osborne secured a two-set victory to seal the team win. With the match decided, play was halted on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts.
With the regional victories, the Spartans advance to the six-team 3C2A State Championships, set for May 7 at Mt. San Antonio College. As the top seed from the South, MiraCosta will compete in a three-team pool alongside the No. 2 seed from the North and the No. 4 seed from the South. The winners of each pool will meet in the championship match.
This marks the third consecutive season that head coach Andrew Bennett has guided MiraCosta to the state championships.
