MiraCosta Beach Volleyball Battles Four-Year Programs, Moves to 5–2 Overall
The MiraCosta College beach volleyball team continued its strong early-season form with a competitive weekend against four-year universities, finishing 1–2 overall while pushing every opponent in tightly contested duals. The Spartans now sit at 5–2 on the season and remain undefeated against community college competition, showing they can compete at a high level against NCAA and NAIA programs.
On Friday, MiraCosta opened with a narrow 3–2 loss to The Master's University, highlighted by dominant straight-set wins from the No. 3 pair of Savai Kilaulani and Sarah Campo Sanchez and the No. 4 duo of Kylie Osborne and Gwen Mitchell. The dual came down to close three-set battles, including a hard-fought match at the No. 1 spot where Hailey Heflin and Kiara Keibel pushed their opponents to the limit.
The Spartans bounced back in impressive fashion on Sunday with a 5–0 sweep of Cal State LA. MiraCosta controlled every court, with Heflin and Keibel leading the way at No. 1 and strong performances throughout the lineup. Osborne and Mitchell dominated at No. 4, while Daniela Szajkowski and Chara Wondercheck delivered a commanding win at No. 3.
MiraCosta closed the weekend with another tight dual, falling 3–2 to Vanguard University. Three of the five matches went the distance or were decided by narrow margins, including back-and-forth three-set contests at the top two courts. Szajkowski and Wondercheck earned a clutch straight-set victory at No. 3, and Osborne and Mitchell added another win at No. 4 to secure the Spartans' two points.
Despite the 1–2 weekend record, the Spartans demonstrated their ability to compete toe-to-toe with four-year programs, with multiple duals decided by only a few points. MiraCosta will look to carry that momentum forward as they continue their strong start to the 2026 season.
