1980 & 1981 Women’s Volleyball State Championship Team
These two teams demonstrated dominance, discipline, and drive, which elevated MiraCosta College to the pinnacle of California community college athletics. The 1980 and 1981 women’s volleyball teams achieved what few programs ever do—back-to-back CCCAA State Championships.
Coached by the legendary Roxanne DeMik, these teams were the embodiment of preparation meeting opportunity. With a perfect blend of talent, teamwork, and tenacity, they not only won titles, but they defined an era of excellence in women’s athletics at MiraCosta. Each squad was built on trust, relentless work ethic, and a commitment to outworking every opponent they faced. Their championship runs captured the attention of the state and put MiraCosta College firmly on the map as a volleyball powerhouse.
But these teams did more than win—they inspired. They raised the bar for what was possible in women’s sports at the community college level and created a legacy that continues to empower athletes today. Their success helped build the foundation of a tradition that still echoes in the gym, in the classroom, and in the lives of those who followed in their footsteps.
While they are not all here, I will read the roster for the both teams.
