MiraCosta College was founded in 1934. It was originally known as Oceanside-Carlsbad Junior College.

The MiraCosta College surf team competes in the college division of the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA).
The Rugby Club competes in the Gold Coast Conference and the NSCRO national tournament. In 2018 the men's rugby club team won the NSCRO National Championship.
